About Us

This website is published by King Island Council. It offers information on King Island Gallery and the King Island Artist Residency, two major arts initiatives supported by Council under its broader Heritage, Arts and Cultural Development Plan. Both programs aim to nurture the islands dynamic and creative resources and support arts and cultural activities for the community.

About the Gallery

King Island Gallery presents quality contemporary artwork in a range of mediums that reflect the unique environment, history and lifestyle of King Island. With artists, art enthusiasts, professionals and volunteer guides working together, it provides a focus for the creative growth and enjoyment of the people of King Island.

More than just a place to showcase local and interstate art, the gallery is also a creative hub for our community: a place to learn and experience new ideas alongside visiting artists, with workshops, exhibitions and arts events held throughout the year.

About the Residency

The Artist Residency invites select Australian artists working in a range of art forms to visit and respond to the uniqueness of the island through their arts practice. Invited artists also present selected arts experiences and workshops related to their practice.

Together, the Gallery and Residency offer local artists and the people of King Island the opportunity to enjoy quality contemporary art and new arts experiences all year round.

The King Island Gallery acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work and live. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and we recognise the creative contributions First Australians make to the art and culture of this country.
